Burnouts are fun, smokey expressions of freedom, but the have a tendency to find the weakest part of a car and exploit that weakness. Usually the classic or modern muscle car crowd tend to be the burnout junkies, but occasionally a classic Chevrolet will get in on the action. Obviously, Brookwood wagons were not meant to be a performance car, but they are plenty capable of tire destruction.
YouTube user boatman936 documented a great burnout by a 1958 Chevrolet Brookwood wagon, but alas … things went awry. As the driver begins to destroy the rear tires, the car continues to scoot forward. Perhaps the brakes were not adequate or the engine was too powerful, but it finally comes to stop and that is when the smoke show really gets started.

After a few seconds of tire roasting, the engine quiets down and then revs back up as the driver’s side axle cries out in pain. The sound of the axle’s death was reminiscent of a gear drive, but alas its failure ended the fun. Although the driver did not seem too upset by the destruction, his buddies were on hand to watch and film the event.
It takes a while for the smoke to clear away, but that did not stop the guys from investigating the destruction. Burnouts are great entertainment and are fun to do, but sometimes things go wrong. Fortunately, the destruction of the axle was not that big of a deal, but it certainly ended the smokey fun for the day.
