All Out Custom: Long-Term Ownership Pays Off With This ’34 Chevy

Dual carbs, shining headers, and no hood are what define this style of hotrod. It’s bright yellow paint makes no attempt to blend in and this car stands out at every show it goes to. This ’34 Chevy Coupe belongs to Jerry Drovdahl of Agnew, Washington, and he’s had it for 38 years.

This is a great body style for a hot rod build.

“It hasn’t been like this the whole time I’ve had it,” Jerry explained. “It was pretty ratty.” He had it for about 5-years before he took it apart, and it was in pieces for 20 or 25-years before Jerry got it back together again.

Jerry bought it out of Port Angeles, Washington, and at the time it was just a ratty hotrod. It had a Pontiac 389 cubic-inch engine, truck shocks, and a straight-axle. Now, it has the drivetrain of a ’72 Chevy Nova with a 350 cubic-inch small-block engine and turbo-350 automatic transmission. He also added a Heidts front suspension system with rack and pinion steering and a rear 4-bar suspension system with coil overs. “It drives and stops really nice,” he explained.

With dual Holley carburetors, he doesn’t pass many fuel stations though. “My wife says it has a drinking problem,” he explained, “But that’s fine, I like stopping at fuel stations.”

Jerry also did a complete rewire on the car with all new equipment. “Everything is in good working order,” he told us. There is still some work to be done in the interior, but that’s just little stuff. He can drive it now, and that’s really what matters.

This is another, awesome, all out custom car. It’s a mild build that keeps true to the hotrod form. What do you think of Jerry’s Coupe? Would you do anything differently? As always, we’d love to see what you’re driving. Shoot us an email with a couple pictures and the details on your build. If it’s a more conventional muscle car, we’ll think about using it as a Street Feature.
