While supercars have been produced in nearly every corner of the world, it remained that none were of Canadian origin — until now. Montreal, Quebec’s Felino Corporation is expected to roll out its entry, the Felino cB7, during Media Day at the 46th edition of Montreal International Auto Show on January 15th. The CEO and creative director behind the cB7, Antoine Bessette, will be on hand when the car is unveiled.
Elaborating on his participation in motorsports, the press release said that Felino head Bessette was the 2005 ASN-Canada champion, and had won numerous races, including the Formula Atlantic rounds at the Molson Indy in Montreal and Toronto. Racing on tracks in the U.S., Mexico, UK, France, Italy and Spain, he developed business contacts along the way. In 2010, the company committed to developing a high-performance two-seat sports car from the ground up. Four years later, the purpose-built car is ready for the track, although the company hinted the Felino cB7 may also be street legal. Targeted towards an international market, they left open the possibility of Canadian availability.
Details of this V-8 powered, carbon fiber sports car have not been released, but Felino said the cB7 is powered by a 6.2 liter GM LS engine, producing 525 HP/489 lb.-ft. of torque linked to a six-speed gearbox. Pre-production versions will be released this year, with a unknown number set for production. Working towards his dream of building his own race machine, Bessette looks to make it a reality for himself and a cadre of motorsports fans in keeping the starting price under $100,000. This could be interesting, and may give other supercars a fight for high end buyers.
