’69 Chevy C10 Has (And Does) It All

We love us some hot rodded-out trucks. So when we spotted this sick ’69 Chevrolet C-10 built by Rob Phillips over at Speedhunters, we had to feature it.

Rob likes his trucks smooth, so he relocated the front turn signals into the head lights, and shaved off the side marker lights, door handles, locks, the rain gutter and even the stake bed holes. He also replaced the bumpers with smoothed and narrowed ones. The tail gate door handle was moved to the inside as well.

The cabin is just as pristine as the exterior with Classic Auto Air air conditioning, new gauges, and a Leccara steering wheel. The truck bed was replaced beautiful oak panels stained cherry wood then clear coated over.

A 468 Chevy big block produces a whopping 640 horsepower and 630 foot pounds of torque via a EFI multi-port fuel injection system feeding a pair of Edelbrock aluminum heads, a Edelbrock Victor Jr. manifold, Edelbrock hydraulic roller cam, as a pair of Hedman headers funnel out the spent fumes. All of this is backed by a GM 12-bolt fitted with an Eaton Locker spinning 3.73 gears.

A Be Cool aluminum radiator cools the big plant as Rob takes the big pickup Pro Touring. Since corner carving is big for Rob, he went with Hotchkis’ spot-on TVS kit, including new control arms, sway bars, a bump steer centerlink, front and rear shock relocaters, and a track bar kit.

The whole package dropped the truck 4.5-inches in the front and 6-inch in the rear, which sits it low over the big 3-piece, flat black MHT Forged Mach X rims; 19×10 in the front and 19×12 in the rear.

All of this requires some serious stopping power, so Rob went with a set of Baer 6-piston brakes. They do the job when Rob’s racing over the weekends, especially when he trades over to a set of Kumho XS tires; 285/30/19 for the front and 345/30/19 for the rear. Otherwise the heavy Chevy rides on a set of Pirelli PZero in 285/30/19f and 305/30/19r.

It’s funny how a show car so quickly was converted to road racing when Rob got hooked on the Pro Touring/Autocross racing gig. Thankfully, this big machine is able to do it all, look as good as it runs, and that is something that is hard to come by, especially for a truck this good looking.
