The 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, the brain child of Zora Arkus-Duntov and Chevrolet’s underground racing development program, is the terror that scared the daylights out of Ford Cobra racing in the mid-1960sIf this 1,900-pound Corvette wasn’t ahead of the pack on the track, it was most certainly lurking in the rear-view mirror, waiting for its chance to strike, pun intended.

Only five Grand Sports were ever produced. Why? Because General Motors banned factory backed racing and the 125 Grand Sports they planned to produce for homologation rules, were axed.

Despite being run hard for many years, all five of the original ’63 Grand Sports have been restored and still exist. As with any ultra rare vehicle it’s difficult to access the monetary value, but they’re rumored to be insured for the $5 million each.

While most of us can only dream of getting close to an original Grand Sport, South African based Superformance is recreating this iconic racing Corvette that anyone (with the money,) can own. It’s so close to the original car it earned the coveted, GM Official Licensed Product badge.

Offered in both coupe and roadster versions with a wide-range range of engine options from Chevrolet Performance, you can tailor you build from mild to wild.

Seven powerplants are available from GM Performance Parts for installation in a re-created Grand Sport, from a 350 HP ZZ4 iron small block to the all aluminum supercharged and fuel injected LS9. All these engines carry a 2-year / 50,000 mile warranty serviced through your local Chevrolet dealer.

If you’re looking to own a part of history, Superformance can take take you there with this resurrected vintage racing ‘Vette.
