When the Chevrolet Nova made its debut in 1962, General Motors surely never expected the economy cruiser to have the lasting appeal it has garnered. It’s a timeless hot rod that all enthusiasts can admit trips the cool factor. Initially designed to be nothing more than an economical mode of transportation, the car could be had in multiple designs: two-door coupe, two-door convertible, a four-door sedan, and a wagon.
Although the Nova was never intended to be a top-of-the-line sports car, the car’s clean and ample room for nearly any powerplant makes it a great candidate for hot rodders. Aftermarket companies like TMI Products are cognizant of that fact, and in fact, TMI has just released another great upgrade to its line of automotive interiors for the second-generation Nova (’68 through ’72).
While TMI already has parts for the 1968- through the 1972-year range in its catalog, the company recently expanded that to include some new styling patterns that were applied to seats, door panels, quarter panels, and molded fiberglass two-piece seats. These products have now been treated to a newly developed Super Sport pattern that emulates racing stripes (dual stripes going down the middle utilizing triangular sections on both the seat back and bottom).
We were told that Ken Johnson is building an absolute monster of a 1971 Nova with a planned horsepower rating of over 1,000 ponies. When Ken needed an interior, he contacted TMI to get a full interior and TMI for everything needed to create an ultimate interior. That means a set of door and quarter panels, carpet kit, a headliner, and dash pad are only some of the products you’ll find inside this hot rod. To get comfortable, passengers can relax in a set of Pro-Chicane seats covered in the new Super Sport pattern.
TMI states the new product offering themselves can be teamed up with existing TMI Nova components to completely transform the interior of any 1968-1972 Nova. The entire interior can be upgraded with new TMI products including front seats, a dash pad, door and quarter panels, a center console, carpet, and headliner, as well as a fiberglass-molded rear seat. And the best part of TMI manufacturing methods is that they ship the entire interior to your door completely ready to install. If you’re planning to build one of these econobox hot-rods, then TMI is a call you need to make.
