When I’m roaming the halls of the SEMA show, I am looking for the most unique and wilds builds out there. I was nearly blinded by the paint and chrome that was coming out of the Pacific Performance Engine’s booth today. Knowing the group’s heavy involvement with our industry, I just knew what I saw had to be diesel-powered. Sure enough, it was.

This beautiful black car is a 1970 Chevelle Super Sport that does not have an original 396 or 454 big-block. Instead, using a ton of their parts, they’ve stuffed a ’06 model, 6.6-liter Duramax engine in this bay, and man does it look right at home in there. It’s completely covered in chrome accents, and this Duramax looks mean. I talked with Andrew Solus about the car and his eyes lit up when I started asking questions.

“This car is an absolute beast. We’ve done one other car like this and it was right at 1,000-horsepower, but this one is peaking out at just over 1,200,” Solus explained. “It has a lot of our products on it, including the oiling system, oil pan, and some other features we offer. It is a 1970 Super Sport, and it is quite a bit different than when it was original.”

Complimenting the engine bay perfectly, the oversize chrome wheels and perfect paint really make this car pop. People were constantly stopping during my visit to get a peek at this, and I even overheard someone say it was a weird-looking engine. That’s because it isn’t normal. It’s better. I don’t know about you, but this would make an awesome evening cruiser back home.
