Known largely for their steering products, ididit is both expanding their steering column offerings as well as branching out into some new territory this year. First, of ididit’s new product offerings is a modern tilt steering column upgrade for 1969-’76 Corvettes.
Designed as a direct replacement part, it comes with a pre-welded under-dash mount, and a new factory-style firewall mount. Fully-collapsible for safety, the new column also features 8-position tilt, self-cancelling turn signals, 4-way flashers, an ignition and relay pack, and both 3-7/8-inch and 4-1/4-inch wiring plugs. In addition, ididit designed the column to work with multiple steering boxes.
“We made the lower shaft of the column extendable,” says Marty Waterstraut. “One size is for a factory steering box, and then there are aftermarket power steering boxes out there that take a completely different size column. Instead of doing two different sized columns, we just made the shaft extendable to accommodate both options. That makes it easy for the customers, and easier for our distributors, since there’s only one column.”
Aimed at a wide variety of customers, from OEM restorations to full on custom cars, the new columns are available in a bare steel finish, to be painted whatever color the end-user wants; chrome for those who are looking for some bling; and a black semigloss powdercoat, which is very close to the factory original finish, according to Waterstraut.
Complementing the columns is a new line of trick push-button ignition kits. Designed to replace the key lock in the column, they are available in three kits, ranging from a simple push-button, all the way to a four-channel programmable remote system which can do everything from unlocking doors to remote engine start, making a custom remote setup a whole lot easier.
