SEMA 2017: Drop Weight With AM Hot Rod Glass Polycarbonate!

New glass can really add a nice finished look to any classic. The green line around the windshield shows the original size; the extra size is for flush-mount applications. AM Hot Rod can deliver whichever you need.

Weight can be a serious restrictive factor for a racecar build. We know from experience that every pound counts, and that heavy glass could be slowing you down. What’s more, if you’re building a custom ride, you might also need a custom window. AM Hot Rod Glass can make what you need a reality.

“AM Hot Rod Glass is a custom prototyping acrylic and polycarbonate windshield application for cars,” said Carmen Bélanger-Martin.  “We actually got our start in the marine industry and my core business 11 years ago was power boats.”

Then, they designed and built their first automotive window. They applied the same principles from the marine industry into the classic car industry, and they’ve had great results so far. “The thing that we really focus on for our clients is fit, optics, and clarity.”

“Each project is looked at as a custom project,” Carmen continued. “We have to look at what the project is that we are going to build, and then figure out a road map how to get to the end result. In the hot rod market, I think the benefits we have with show cars is the chopped top and being able to bring the roofline down and integrate the window so that it doesn’t stand out from the build. Your eyes should be drawn to the overall build, and the glass should be an affect of the build.”

On top of the versatility of their window technology, they are able to reduce weight as well, but they’re designed mainly for show and race applications. Keep in mind that even though they are DOT certified company and a lot of their products are street legal, most of their windshields are not.
