In 2009, Edelbrock brought its E-Force positive-displacement supercharger line to market, based on the venerable Eaton TVS2300 rotor pack. Since then, the company has expanded the lineup to cover an immense list of late-model musclecars and trucks. Ford, Chevrolet, and Mopar vehicles can all take advantage of the design.
“The great thing about our kits is that they are delivered complete. We don’t release a kit until we can supply the customer with an emissions-legal tune,” says Edelbrock’s Eric Blakely. “If you want to make more power, we have the Stage 2 or 3 kits, the owner can find a qualified tuner, add headers and all that other stuff, then to go town. The Stage 3 kits are delivered with a base tune and no pulley — the customer can pick up the pulley and tailor the kit for what they want to do.”
The kits offer a whopping power boost — Blakely says the newer Corvette and Camaro platforms see in the neighborhood of 160+ additional horsepower over the factory rating with the installation of the Stage 1 kit, and obviously more power is available from the Stage 2 and 3 systems.
There is a kit in development for the 2015-16 Mustang making 620-plus horses through the stock throttle body, with a plan to make 700 horsepower with the Stage 1, emissions-legal supercharger system.
The company designs its kits around front-entry throttle body positions to keep the systems compact, due to ever-shrinking engine compartment dimensions.
“Our philosophy has always been to use the short inlet path to move the air through the supercharger as quickly as possible, and also to use the largest intercooler we can fit,” says Blakely. “The new Mustang’s airpath actually passes the air through the intercooler twice; we bring the air in through the rotors, back up, and back down through the intercooler again to get the air inlet temperatures as low as we can. We’re going to start doing the dual-pass path as much as we can on future systems.”
The E-Force design has been developed for great drivability even at low RPM, regardless of vehicle platform.
