When it comes to maxing out a car’s engine performance, the routes one can take are many–turbocharging, supercharging, nitrous oxide injection, and other methods all focus on getting the motor to churn out more oomph as the RPMs climb. For the DIY types, this process is difficult to accomplish without the use of a dynamometer; not something you can find at the local Harbor Freight.

As a way around this, wideband O2 sensors have become the norm of shadetree tuners everywhere. Zeitronix is one such company to supply these units, and was proud to showcase its new offering alongside other sweet electronic devices at the recent 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

On hand to speak with us was Maria Buch, who walked us through some of the features of one product in particular: the Zt-2 wideband datalogging system. “The Zt-2 allows users to read the air-fuel ratio, and works universally with any type of engine and any type of fuel,” she said.

As a kit, the Zt-2 comes packaged with the wideband computer, a Bosch wideband O2 sensor with 10-foot harness, power/ground harness, and data port cables to enable laptop connectivity. “We also sell an EGT sensor that connects to the wideband,” said Buch.

Buch picked up a regular lighter and held it up to the Bosch sensor, triggering the butane gas to release as numbers displayed on a monitor above the display. This was where the datalogging comes into play, as Buch showed us how the Zt-2 can display such readouts as boost, throttle position, air-fuel ratio, and more. “You can pause the readout and put markers in to compare, like with laps or passes down the dragstrip,” commented Buch.
