SEMA 2012: B&M Shows Latest Trans Pans And Aluminum Diff Covers

Way back in 1953, a new company emerged on the racing scene, and by 1955 Bob Spar and Mort Schuman (B&M) introduced the only patented 4-speed automatic racing transmission. Along with the help of Don Spar, this transmission was known as the B&M Hydro Stick. This began a legacy that today is still one of the most popular names in transmissions and racing: B&M Racing & Performance Products.

For years now, B&M has been the leader in R&D of aftermarket racing transmission technology, as well as the largest supplier in the world for performance shifters to OEMs and tuners in the US and Europe. Their product range covers shifters, coolers, transmission kits, torque converters, complete automatic transmissions, and the list goes on.

We caught up with Frank Marra with B&M and he shared some new products with us, namely their new line of deep trans pans for the latest Mopars and Chevrolets. The new aluminum pans apply to the Dodge Charger, Challenger, Magnum and Chrysler 300, as well as the 6L80 transmission in the new Camaro.

The deep pans help to dissipate the heat quicker, and with up to four more quarts of transmission fluid the lubrication is increased and the additional fluid helps to keep the transmission running a little cooler. The pans include a magnetic drain plug, as well as a threaded port for a temperature sender.

New for B&M are these cool aluminum differential covers that will be available soon.

Also in their lineup of new parts, Marra showed us a new aluminum differential cover that they are releasing soon. This new cover will allow a little more fluid for better cooling and lubrication; it’s A356.0-T6 aluminum construction includes cooling fins to add strength to the cover, and load bolts to support bearing caps under stress. At the bottom of the cover is a magnetic drain plug to pick up what you don’t want making its way around the gears.

As this is a new product for B&M, the current coverage is limited for the time being. This part is for the Ford 8.8 inch differential, but they do plan to develop more covers to fit an expanded range of vehicles, including Mopar cars and late model trucks, GM 10 and 12-bolt covers and Dana rear ends in the next few months. Expect to see the first covers out in early 2013, we’ll keep you posted when we get product release information.

B&M has been involved in all aspects of transmission performance, from cooling to shifters to complete performance transmissions for decades, and there is plenty more to come. For more information about their performance products, be sure to visit their web site and stay tuned here for more new product releases that we will bring you as they become available.
