If keeping your factory catalytic converters is imperative, then look no further than JBA Performance Exhaust and the fine folks at Pertronix for a set of CARB certified headers. JBA continues to be a leader in its EO numbers for late model applications like the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger. They can even satisfy the itch for many in the truck crowd.
We spoke with Exhaust R&D Manager and industry veteran Don Lindfors at the PRI Show about some of JBA’s latest offerings including the 2010-2015 Camaro SS (PN 1812S), 2016 Camaro SS (PN 1818S), 2015-2017 Mustang GT (PN 1689S), and the 2015-2016 Challenger/Charger Hemi & Hellcat (PN 1968S) Cat4Ward headers.
“We have more EO’s than anybody else in the industry. We’ve got stuff for ’17 cars already that nobody else has. On the Chrysler side…Chrysler is very, very difficult to get an EO on because the cars are dirty. They do not run clean from the factory even. It took us about 5 years to get Chrysler done all the way through ’16 and ’17.”
1-3/4-inch mandrel bent stainless steel tubes with 3/8-inch thick flanges and Firecone collectors are standard on all of these. JBA offers raw as well as silver and titanium finish ceramic coating. These are a direct replacement for the factory exhaust manifolds, mounting up to the rest of your factory exhaust or a JBA catback.
Of course, don’t be lead to believe that JBA doesn’t also make a quality long-tube for those in less emissions stringent states. Take one look at the immaculately polished 304 stainless steel Corvette headers and you’ll see exactly what we mean. JBA offers a Tri-Y or “4-2-1” design for the C6 and C7 to maintain a higher velocity in the exhaust gas as it merges – thereby producing a broader torque curve. These headers even have a V-band collector.
New for this year, Pertronix also released the Digital HP CDI box. It has been a long-time coming, but they finally have a full ignition box of their own. Don stated that it has been worth the wait, though, as it offers 187 mJ of spark energy, integrated 2-step rev limiter, true multiple spark to redline, RPM activated trigger, a smaller package size, and a slightly lower price than the competition.
