PRI 2016: Cam Motion Hints At Upcoming LT Parts

Cam Motion is a brand well known for its track record in the LS community. You’ll find their cams in everything from mild to wild builds— but more often in the most radical builds you can find. That’s because Cam Motion goes to great lengths to offer fantastic performance grinds that are accurate to within a tenth of a degree—a standard that is almost unheard of in the camshaft world. We stopped by to visit at PRI and we have some good news for you LT lovers.

“What we think a lot of racers are concerned about when they ask for a cam for the LT is the fuel lobe,” said Steve Balusik of Cam Motion. “We’ve got a lot of options that feature a fuel pump lobe that will reliably boost fuel flow by 32-33 percent without putting overdue stress on the pump.”

Most are probably aware at this point that the fuel system is somewhat of an Achilles heel for the LT, prohibiting more than just north of 900 horsepower in most applications without a supplementary fuel source. But Cam Motion just may be working on remedying that situation.

“We have a lot of upcoming parts for the LT that people are really going to be excited about that we can really fully talk about just yet,” said Balusik. “But they’re definitely on the way and they are going to be things that racers have been asking for.”

In the mean time, Cam Motion is producing performance cams for both LS and LT engines that are far from ordinary. That’s because Cam Motion is very particularly careful when it comes to their bumpstick is hardness depth.

“You might hear of some people having problems with hardness or their cam getting soft, or even whining, but our process is different and prevents most, if not all of those problems,” said Balusik. “We have many cores to choose from, which we then grind close to the final specifications, then it is hardened. Then it is final ground to the specifications. The important part is to choose a core that is close to the specifications of the final camshaft so that when you do your final grind, you remove as little of material as possible and retain the hardness.”

But whether you’re after a custom ground cam or an off-the-shelf grind, you can rest assured that you’re only getting the best from Cam Motion. We’ll keep you posted with any updates on Cam Motions up and coming LT parts.
