Edelbrock‘s new series of port-matched cylinder heads and intake manifolds is one of those time-saving, money-saving products that also helps build horsepower.
“There’s no work that needs to be done,” stresses Edelbrock’s Eric Blakely. “You can bolt them on right out of the box.”
Examples of port-matched cylinder heads and intake manifolds.
The line of port-matched heads and intakes was developed for the sportsman racer who needs a reliable and proven combination of parts that will fit without problems that can spring up if different brands are tried or if a racing head is mated to a street-performance intake. The only solution then was to spend a few hours at the workbench with a hand grinder, machinist’s ink and a scribe. And even then you couldn’t be assured of a consistent match from cylinder to cylinder.
With CNC technology Edelbrock can guarantee an exact port match, and the company can also suggest the right manifold for the right cylinder head. One of the best examples is the Edelbrock/Musi 24-degree CNC-ported cylinder head for big-block Chevy’s, PN 61409. This is a brute of a head for sportsman racers with rectangular ports boasting 377cc intake runner volume and 2.30/1.90 valve sizes. It also features a raised exhaust port, 119cc combustion chamber volume, an extra thick deck and additional material in the spring pockets to support high-lift cams and stiff springs. The perfect mate for this cylinder head is a Super Victor II intake (PN 28962) that features CNC port-matching for an exact fit. The single-plane Super Victor II is designed for 3,500 to 8,000 rpm range and provides a 4500 footprint flange.
In other news for the sportsman racer, Edelbrock now offers 25 cylinder heads that are legal replacements for NHRA Stock and Super Stock racing. With original heads from the popular ’60s and ’70s musclecars becoming hard to find or difficult to work on, Edelbrock’s legal heads make engine builds much easier without losing any performance. The heads are easily identified with the NHRA logo engraved on both ends of the casting along with the specific part number. Edelbrock does warn, however, that the racers are still responsible for ensuring that the intake runner and combustion chamber volumes are correct for individual engines. One of the newest additions to the line is PN 61917 for ’92-’97 Chevy LT1 engines.
