Braille Battery, manufacturer of some of the world’s leading lightweight Lithium-Ion and AGM carbon fiber race batteries, was on site at PRI 2014 to show off some of their latest and greatest for the consumer aftermarket. Heavily recognized for their extensive background in offering some of the world’s fastest race cars the cranking amps needed to fire up their engines, we caught up with Matt Chin to get more information about their line focused at the performance-enthusiast.

For anyone with the need of a small form factor battery, Chin quickly lead us to the all-new and extremely compact G20, designed for the consumer market. Chin explained, “We came out with our new G20 this year, and this one has about 725 crank amps and only weighs 4.5-pounds. It is consumer grade, hand built in the USA, has an expected life of seven to 10 years, and retails for about $525.”

Moving on to the V8-loving performance enthusiast, Chin showed us what they have to meet our needs with the steadfast GU1R that is designed as a direct replacement battery. Chin added, “If you have a V8 – something like a Coyote, LS-motor, or small block Chevy, the GU1R is a great option with 1,000 crank amps and it only weighs 6.5-pounds. If you have a regular street car, this will run it no problem!”

We wanted to know how the GU1R compared to their more expensive and race-focused ML20 battery which Chin addressed by saying, “Between the GU1R and ML20, you’re getting about 85-percent of the performance for half the cost. This is our move into the consumer aftermarket by bringing a great battery to the masses at a great price.”
