Steve Goodwin’s West Coast Grudge Terror Nova

Grudge racing is growing in popularity across the United States, and this is especially true on the West Coast where racetracks are little more spread out and class racing has become less prevalent. Many tracks and promotors have now incorporated no-time style grudge racing into their programs, and it’s the right move. Rules are kept fairly simple, which really appeals to the masses that would rather not change their setup from season to season.

Steve’s 1969 Chevy Nova runs a 565-inch BBC with twin 80mm BorgWarner turbos running on E-85, with a CSU blow-through dominator. The engine is equipped with a Callies crank, Oliver rods, Diamond Pistons, Dart heads, Merlin block and a Steve Morrison turbo cam.

Steve Goodwin has recently made some changes to his 1969 Chevy Nova and is ready to take on the grudge scene when racing resumes. Steve’s Nova is equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 565 cubic-inch big-block Chevy engine strapped to to a BTE Turbo 400 transmission and a PTC converter. The chassis was done by Tim Mitchell of 1320 industries, which includes a 6.50 e.t. cert cage, relocated leaf springs to include placing the 9-inch, and mini-tubbing to fit 15×12 wheels by Billet Specialties. Tim also built the entire turbo system by hand. The Terror Nova has a complete full interior, including the back seat. The ignition system is run off of the MSD Grid which controls the boost, ARC module, and on-the-fly launch control. The car is equipped with a full array of Racepak systems to include a drag dash and the SmartWire system.

Steve's Nova may not look like much but don't let it fool you, he's ready to gap any and all those who want some action.

Once racing resumes in the near feature, Steve and his Nova will be ready to rock and roll. “With my current setup, I am able to run both big and small tires classes. Once things get going, I plan to run events throughout the west, including but not limited to Arizona, Nevada, and California.”
