If there is one thing that is true about all enthusiasts, it’s that, when they find the car of their dreams, they’re in it for the long haul. Take Bill Wooddell for instance. He has a gorgeous ’68 Camaro that has been part of his life for many years, and he has no plans of that changing any time soon.

“I tried to keep the car mainly “stock” appearing and understated. And it is definitely that until you hear it run,” – Bill Woodell.

“I have owned it since 2003,” Bills says. “I am the third owner, and when I got it, it had 72,700 miles on it. It also has the original 327 under the hood, but it has received a few upgrades.” Bill started by adding a set of Keith Black hypereutectic pistons to the stock crankshaft and connecting rods. Up top is a set of Power Products heads from Competition Products heads with Crane Gold roller rockers and 7/16 studs. Between those new pistons is a COMP Cams Magnum 292H camshaft with .501/.501-inch lift and 292/292-degrees of duration at .050-inch lift.

Between those heads is an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with a 1-inch carb spacer and a Holley 750cfm vacuum secondary carburetor. Each of the eight small, controlled burns is instigated by an MSD 6AL2 with MSD Blaster coil, Accel billet distributor, Accel shorty spark plugs, and Taylor Spiro Pro wires. Spent exhaust gasses are sent through a set of Hooker Super Comp long-tube headers with an H-pipe and QTP electric cutouts into a Flowmaster exhaust with 40-series mufflers.

A car like this definitely sees some highway miles, so comfort is a top priority. “The car has factory air conditioning and factory power steering,” Bill affirms. “I also added a Right Stuff Detailing drilled and slotted front disc brake conversion with tubular upper control arms and 2-1/2-inch drop springs up front.

Bill also tells us the Deluxe interior is original, except he did reupholster the front seats using PUI seat skins. While cruising, the requisite tunes are run through a Custom Autosound stereo, that is enhanced by JL Audio speakers, two Rockford Fosgate Punch 400 amps, and a powered low-profile subwoofer.

According to Bill, Kentucky Speedway has a Drive The Track day, a couple of times a year, and the car regularly sees 130-mph-plus on the track when he goes.
