Video: Ten Second C6 Corvette Daily Driver Hits the Dragstrip

There’s a “sweet spot” when it comes to car modifications, where you have just the right balance between civilized manners and raw power. More often than not, in our zeal to satisfy our need for speed, we overshoot that sweet spot and end up with a car that’s a blast to drive at the track, but miserable anywhere else. Too loud, too hot, too squirrely if there’s a drop of dew on the road, too overpowered for our own level of self-control (though we’d never admit it to anyone).

Gotta love that vanity plate!

This guy has it nailed, though. Tim LeGros’ 2009 Corvette occupies the dead center of the sweet spot — with a claimed 730 horsepower to the tires and nothing but the cowl hood to give away the car’s potential at first glance, it’s a car you could happily daily-drive between trips to the track, and that’s exactly what he does.

10sec2Bought used with 30k on the odometer, the LS3 is internally stock, save for a camshaft swap. Bolted to the front is a Vortech V-3 Si supercharger courtesy of A&A Corvette Performance, delivering 12 psi aided by a water/methanol injection system to keep intake temperatures and detonation under control. Out back, the 6L80E automatic transmission remains factory-spec as well, with the exception of a Vigilante 2,800 RPM stall converter to help get the car off the line quicker.

We get to see a couple passes in the video, with the quickest being 10.19 at 135 miles per hour and change. Tim claims a best time of 10.08 at 138 in his interview, and we’d say that’s just about perfect. Any quicker and you’d need a competition license and a bunch more safety equipment to be “legal” at the track, and if you can’t get it done going to the grocery store after work with more than 700 horsepower to the tires, you need to get your adrenal gland checked.
