It’s unlike that there is no trio of model years more synonymous with the heyday of hot rodding more than the venerable “Tri-Fives” from Chevrolet. Between 1955 and 1957, over three million of these machines were built, instantly placing these cars in the annals of automotive history. Moreover, there were few cars more apt and available to be converted into drag strip and Main Street contenders. Truly, the Tri-Fives were legends.

That’s why its high times for Classic Industries to join in the fun. Undoubtedly, Classic has gained a firm grip on the GM F-Bodies, and as of last year, the Mopar A, B, and E-Bodies, a venture which has paid off in spades. Now, with several years of research and development behind them, the new Tri-Five catalog is coming out for 2012.

Whether you’re building a full-tilt restoration, a restomod, or a street-and-strip driven classic, the new catalog promises to have something right – and something unique – just for you. When we walked into Classic’s booth at this year’s SEMA show, we were struck by the chosen ’57 on display. The side trim might catch many of you off guard as it appears to be from a ’55.

In reality, this particular ’57 is what is called a 150-class Business Coupe. Owned by Reggie Jackson, this incredible rare, and surprisingly stripped bare coupe came in Chevrolet’s lowest trim package – including a backseat, radio and A/C delete – but with the 283ci V8 capped with dual quads. To the daring teenager, this might be the ideal car to turn into a street bruiser. To the history lover, this was the machine used to create the legendary “Black Widow.”

Nonetheless, Classic Industries is now in the Tri-Five game. And when Classic throws its hat into the ring, they don’t do it half-assed.
