A 1958 Chevy Pickup With A Few Surprises Up Its Sleeve

Walking down the truck aisle at the 2015 Goodguys Southwest Nationals, we came across Steve and Margie LaForest of Cave Creek, Arizona, and their 1958 Chevrolet Pickup. Simply put, this Chevy truck is a stunning piece of work.

The paint job really helps to bring out the curves and hard lines on this classic Chevy pickup.

The driveline includes a 350-cubic inch V8 from a 1993 Chevy Corvette, coupled with a T700R4 transmission and a Corvette 2.56 rearend. The engine includes Sanderson headers, a custom air filter setup, Borla SS mufflers out back, and an aluminum driveshaft. A four wheel disc brake system provides plenty of stopping power and Aldan coilovers give the truck great handling characteristics.

Observing the engine bay, the dual intake setup really pulled us in to see more.

The truck has been chopped three inches, the door handles have been shaved, and a custom roll pan with Corvette taillights give this truck some character. It also features one-piece side windows, a front flip louvered hood, a flush third brake light, curly maple bed wood, a smoothed firewall, and a trimmed and smoothed front bumper.

The interior is elegant and functional for the speedy Chevy truck.

Heading inside, the truck has a custom dash, Dakota Digital telemetry, and an Autoloc linear actuated hood. A Lokar shifter, gas pedal, and emergency brake add a nice performance touch inside, not forgetting about the Kicker and Rockford Fosgate sound system that provides crisp sound. “The truck was completely built by us in a home shop, taking nearly 20 years to complete,” said LaForest.

Each modification on this truck works in unison to create a nice overall package that isn't too distracting.

With countless hours of labor put into this custom truck, we commend Steve and his dedication to his craft. Having such heavy Corvette influence, it is clear that Steve is a pure Chevy enthusiast. What do you think of this truck? Is there too much going on? Be sure to share your thoughts below.

With so much attention to detail, Steve is proud of his truck and all that has been accomplished on it.
