Outlaw 8.5, a category that’s the product of the natural progression of tires from larger to smaller in the arena of heads-up doorslammer racing, is gradually coming into prominence as more events and competitors spring up at various locations around the country, and Wayne Long’s absolutely stunning, show-quality 1968 Camaro is a prime example of the new machines being built for this up-and-coming class.

Long’s Camaro, features a beautiful candy paint job that’s set off exceptionally well with a vinyl top and accentuated with a set of Mickey Thompson wheels up front, American Racing hoops on the rear, flush-mount hood pins, and chrome wheelie bars, parachute mount, and the original first-gen Camaro trim “bling.”

Powered by a conventional-headed 632 cubic inch big block on two nitrous kits, Long’s Texas-based machine rides on a set of 26 x 8.5″ slicks, transferred to the pavement through an old school leaf-spring rear suspension setup. But don’t let any of those limitations fool you; this wicked ride that’s built for both show and go – inside, outside, and underneath – has been a 5.08 at 149 MPH in the eighth-mile minus the wheelie bars. On those mini-meats, that’s just nasty.
