eBay Find of the Day: Get Your Hands On This 396-Powered ’65 Impala

Looking at this Impala reminds us that there’s always a member of the herd that is physically overdeveloped. This is the one. For 1965, Chevrolet’s most popular full size car was completely restyled, bringing along the the new Turbo Jet big-block V8 engine, with 396 cubic inches. The Impala sold well over one million units in 1965.

Across the Impala lineup, certainly the two door coupe was the most striking with its fastback roofline, sharp creases and frameless side glass. Visually, the SS version showed only minor changes with different fender badges and rocker panel trim deleted.

A previous owner may have been trying  for this same look, as the rocker trim is missing and the black band under the tail lights was an SS model distinction. The original Turbo Jet 396 fender badges remain, however.

The current example is fitted with a manual transmission and shows just 47,445 miles, according to the seller. The updated rims and tires certainly give this coupe an extra portion of attitude.

From the photos, some additional mods are on the car including long tube headers and a custom exhaust. While the seller doesn’t mention anything, the stance of this Impala strongly suggests that some chassis modifications are waiting to be discovered.

Located in House Springs, MO, there is a reserve bid on this Impala. The auction runs until July 7, 2011, so there’s plenty of time to check it out and ask questions of the seller. If you’re not able to do a personal inspection of this Impala, it would be prudent to have an independent, professional inspection report done on the car.

As always, this is not a comment on the particular vehicle, but good practice when buying a vehicle by remote control. There are horror stories out there and we just wouldn’t want one of them to be yours.
