It’s not everyday that you’re reunited with a long lost love, whether that comes in the form of a person, memento or even a truck, but that’s exactly what happened to one Phoenix grandfather over the weekend as his daughter and son-in-law surprised him with the restored version of the very truck he had purchased fresh out of school some 52 years ago. Check out the surprise reveal in the video above, compliments of ABC 15.

After Cecil Sims graduated from college back in the early 60s, he took a trip from Wilson, Arizona down to Phoenix to purchase the vehicle of his dreams- a brand new half-ton Chevy pickup truck. The year was 1962 and Sims secured the truck he liked from Courtesy Chevrolet for just $1,700.
Over the last 52 years, the truck has remained in the Sims family, acquiring over 300,000 miles and countless memories.
Unfortunately, as time went on, the rust damage the truck acquired also increased, eventually pushing the truck into a scrap position. But instead of letting the truck totally go to waste, Sims daughter and son-in-law hatched out a new plan.
Since December of last year, Sims’ son-in-law Jim Anderson worked on restoring the truck to showroom condition. The whole process took 21 weeks from start to finish and ended where Sims’ relationship with the truck began- back at Courtesy Chevrolet in Phoenix.
On Saturday, Sims’ family surprised him with the restored truck, taking him to the dealership where he originally purchased the vehicle. Even the gentleman that sold Sims the truck back in the day was on hand to help celebrate the occasion. Now how’s that for a perfect Father’s Day present?
