For whatever reason, fast, cool station wagons have always gotten the attention of gearheads around the world. Among Chevy vans, the holy grail of awesome station wagons is the late-50’s Nomad coupe. But Chevy has had plenty of other cool station wagons, or “sedans delivery” as they were called back in the day.
Somebody put a lot of love and labor into this eBay Find of the Day, a ’51 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery hot rod with a wild paint job and some muscle to match those looks.
This Grandmaster Show winning sedan delivery features a Camaro subframe and rearend with a Tuned Port Injection 350 under the hood, backed by a 700R transmission.
But most of the labor definitely went into customizing this body, which has a ’52 Chevy front end (which the hood has been welded to.) The top has been chopped 5 ¼-inches and the frame shortened 3-inches and sectioned 6-inches.
In fact, this sedan has just about every hot rod trick in the book attached to some part of it. There are suicide doors, flared front fenders, custom built spoilers, louvered and shaved ’55 Chevy headlights.
It is basically a smorgasbord of every kind of Chevy hot rod from the early-to-mid 1950’s. There are modern influences too though, like huge wheels (that we could live without) and a 19-inch television because hey, why not?
There’s even a hot rod tribute scene on the wagon’s wall. It’s nice to see another Chevy hot rod wagon that’s not a Nomad (even though the name is way, way cooler than “Sedan Delivery”).
