Paint and Bodywork: How Nice is Too Nice?

When you’re building a car – especially one you are going to drive quite often – you really need to consider how and what you will use it for. Everybody would like to drive around a perfect car with near perfect paint but the reality is, if you’re driving to cruise nights, a show here and there, or to an event, it doesn’t make sense. How much are you going to spend on paint and bodywork, are you doing it yourself, is it a daily driver?

Think about if; you did a full rotisserie custom paint job and the underside of your ride looks just as good as the top, you find out that after a few miles you look under it to find new stone chips and road grime staring to ruin all that hard work. The point we are making is unless it’s a trailer queen and it will be pampered, build your car so you will enjoy it.

Let’s say you meet with your friends at the local donut shop and then go out for a drive, are you going to be staring out the window watching to make sure no one gets too close to give you your first door ding. What about the kids getting in and out of the car on a Sunday morning, do you want to continuously remind them to lift there feet over the sill plates, not slam the doors, sit still and don’t put finger prints on the windows.

You will be so stressed worrying about keeping your car perfect that everyone will hate your attitude because you can’t enjoy the drive or your family. Why do you think the guys with the rat rods have so much fun, they can lean on the fenders drive anywhere and have fun with out being stressed over scratching a $20k paint job.

Let’s face it unless your a multi-millionaire and can afford to keep your car guarded by body guards and park it in the living room then its best for sanity’s sake to build an enjoyable show/driver that everyone can enjoy.
