A few weeks ago we introduced you to Cathy Figuracion and her 1971 Chevelle convertible. Cathy had been diagnosed with brain cancer and she wanted to take a ride in her drop top one last time. The car was currently under restoration when she received her diagnosis and thats when a group of family and friends picked up the restoration and ran.
The crew that started the restoration for Cathy made a ton of progress in the last week weeks putting in long hours. The frame had been completely stripped, rebuilt and painted. Assembly of all the suspension had been completed. Once the new floor pans and trunk pans were welded in, the frame was slid under the body and re-united.
Tons of progress in a short period of time!
From there all the gaps were adjusted on the body, which included lots of massaging along with cutting and welding of some panels to get the perfect fitment. From there the entire car was primered where block sanding began. Hours upon hours were spending smoothing out every panel to razor straight perfection.
All the jambs, nooks and crannies were sprayed with blue. From there the white was shot on the hood and trunk for the Super Sport stripes. Once the white had dried, the stripes were laid down and taped off so the blue could be laid down.
The blue was laid down, along with the coats of clear. Since this project has only been underway for a hair over a month, a ton of progress has been made with most of the hard work being done. We can’t wait to see progress over the next few weeks, which we will show you so make sure to come back for more!
