Now that the American Modern ’65 Malibu SS has seen tons of body work, it’s time to move back into the interior of the classic Chevy to straighten out more components and tie up some loose ends. Check out the latest mini project in this week’s episode of The Build above!

Though much of the interior body work has already been taken care of on the Malibu, there are a few things that haven’t quite gotten straightened out- literally. One of these things is the dash, which previously received a rough pull but not its finishing details. So for that, Paul Nabers, American Modern claim adjuster retired from his desk for the time being and went back to his roots of fixing old cars.

To get the dash properly straightened out, Nabers hammered and dollied the lower sections that were still showing distress from the Malibu’s unsightly run-in with a brick wall. Of course, with just small amounts of metal out of shape, lots of care and skill was needed to get the dash back on the straight and narrow.

Now with the dash board straighter than ever, the new dash insert fits perfectly in front of the future steering column!

Another section of the interior Nabers had to address was the lapped pinch weld on the drivers side within the door frame section. During the car’s accident, this got bent out of shape and needs to be adjusted back into place to give the car its proper lines everywhere on the body.

To do so, Nabers made a relief cut right at the pucker site and massaged the metal back in place.

He then tack welded the cut back together for strength and finishing purposes. All that’s left to do to finish that mini project now is a bit of grinding.
