2013 is turning out to be a big year for GM’s performance car offerings, including the reveal of the 2014 Corvette, the launch of the Chevy SS sedan, and the surprise Camaro Z/28. It’s a great time to be a Chevy performance enthusiast, and GM is making sure its new round of sports cars live up to world class standards, testing and tuning them on tracks like Germany’s famed Nürburgring.

With its 450 horsepower 6.2 liter LT1 engine and a brand-spanking new 7-speed manual transmission, the all-new Corvette was bred to be a world-class sports car. Delicate European sensibilities were hurt by the “low-quality” interior in the C5 and C6, so the new Corvette has stepped up the look and feel of the cockpit. The result is what Forbes calls the best seats of any car.

But the Corvette has always been about performance, and testing at the Nürburgring has become a must-do for any sports car worth its high-performance tires. This also includes the 500 horsepower Camaro Z/28, which showed up at the ‘ring alongside the Corvette. It’s a double whammy of American muscle on a German race track, an indication of how far (literally) GM is willing to go to get these cars right.
