At the New York Auto Show earlier this year, GM rolled out a refreshingly new look for the Chevrolet Camaro. After almost four years on the market, the new Camaro not only got a new look, but a 500 horsepower Z28 version as well. Noticeably absent? A droptop version of the new Camaro, which GM decided to save for a later debut.
Well that debut has arrived, and once again the General has pulled off the sheets of the convertible Camaro at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany. The 2014 Camaro Convertible looks as good as we expected, though comparing the American and European versions still shows some marked differences.
First off it’s important to note that Europe will only be getting the 6.2 liter V8-powered Camaros, forgoing the optional V6 as most Old World buyers don’t care to have that engine in their American muscle car. With the Camaro starting at $53,990 in Europe, a $20,000 premium over the U.S., we understand why. Want the convertible? Prepare to pony yp $60,000, which will put you in a well-optioned 2014 Corvette or Camaro ZL1 in the U.S. Also, the only transmission is a six-speed manual; that, America approves of.
Besides that, European and American Camaros are differentiated by the different side view mirrors; Europe has much longer, larger mirrors for whatever reason. But besides that the droptop Camaro looks very similar no matter what continent you happen to be on. For 2014 the Camaro also gains a new color heads-up display and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Looks like Camaro owners on either continent will have plenty to keep them busy for the foreseeable future.
