Gorgeous Camaro Pro Touring Build From Australia – Project Crisis!

camarorender

It seems like our friends in other countries are having all the fun when it comes to incredible Pro-Touring builds, and the forums at Pro-Touring.com are a great place to go and check them out. We found this awesome Camaro build that’s been put together for an Australian fellow – the car was purchased back in 2007 from California and shipped home to be worked on.

Once the car arrived, upon disassembly a number of issues were found that the owner, Greg, wanted to correct – a shoddy partial floor repair and quarter panels that have seen better days among others. By the time the car was in pieces, the decision was made to completely replace the floors along with the trunk floor, a new firewall, and both rear quarters along with the roof – no small project for even an experienced fabricator.

The car as he received it; as you can see most of the sheetmetal has been worked or replaced.

The amount of work necessary was unreal, and since the owner was doing much of it himself the project has spanned four years and still isn’t complete, but he’s in the home stretch now on what appears by all accounts to be one hell of a build.

camaro19The car will feature a 750-horse 440 cubic inch LS engine with lots of sweet gear inside; a set of Manley rods, Callies crankshaft, and Jesel valvetrain will keep the horses pounding upon key twist.

Art Morrison built an incredible front and rear suspension system for the car – the rear suspension consists of a five-link design, including a Watts link, which was a task in itself to make fit around the stock floors – some custom modifications needed to be made in order for everything to fit as the upper link on the rearend housing needed to fit into the floor. A rear-seat delete was designed to fit everything in and keep the interior looking good; the end result will be a sweet interior and handling that will surpass most machines on the road today.

Art Morrison's awesome customer GT Sport front and rear suspension assemblies were ordered and fitted to the chassis.

Front suspension consists of AME’s GT Sport front clip, which has modified C6 Corvette spindles that carry a 2-inch drop along with forged aluminum upper and lower C6 control arms and adjustable coil-over shocks. The front subframe doesn’t require any cutting or welding and is designed to be a bolt-in.

Transmission duties are handled by the tried-and-true Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed transmission, which seems to be the choice for all of the hot Pro Touring machines we’ve seen lately. It seems as though these owners want the opportunity to bang gear, and in an insane, all-out build like this, we have to agree – that’s half the fun!

The owner also installed a nice multi-point rollcage into the chassis. Lots of fabrication time went into the headers and exhaust as well; the owner used a kit from icengineworks to fab up the tubing to fit the tall-deck RHS block. Rowe and Sons in Perth, Western Australia, was tapped to replace the sheetmetal on the body and lay the paint in a hue called Sting Red with a slick set of metallic silver stripes.

When you look at the photos from the beginning of the build and compare them with what the owner’s got at the end stages of the process, it’s difficult to wrap your mind around the amount of work that went into making this machine what it is today. It’s a true testament to what a motivated car owner (with deep enough pockets) can achieve.

Paint has finally been applied and he's now in the finishing stages of the build!

Paint has finally been applied and he’s now in the finishing stages of the build.

Every facet of this build appears to be top-notch, and from what we can see the car will be finished up in the near future. We’ve only been able to include some of the dozens of photos he’s posted of the build, so if you’re itching for more, head on over and check out the build thread. We can’t wait to see this one finished up, how about you?
