Once upon a time, buying an American car meant buying a car with all the parts, steel and electrical gizmos that were American as well. But these days we live in a global economy, and many automakers source parts for their cars from businesses both here and abroad. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is no exception either.

SupplierBusiness.com put together this nifty infographic showing just how many companies are involved in the design and building process of the 2014 Corvette.

Unless you are deeply involved in the automotive parts business, chances are you haven’t heard of many of these companies. While we do see some familiar names, like Federal-Mogul (which provides the valve seats and guides) and Magna (which supplies the outside mirrors), many of these names are rather foreign to us.

That’s because many of these companies are based outside of the U.S. Keyang, for example, is a South Korean company that builds the steering column, while INA is based in Germany and builds the LT1 engine’s timing chain. With so many exotic parts and materials integrated into the 2014 Corvette, it’s no wonder GM had to tap global parts suppliers for this new sports car.

But it does leave us wondering; how American will the 2014 Corvette Stingray be when all is said and done?
