Disassembling an engine is a time-consuming process, but with the right tools and precautions used, you can tear down an engine in an afternoon. The American Modern crew started tearing down their 1965 Malibu SS’s engine last time on The Build, and this week they continue the process until they can’t tear it down anymore. Check out their progress in the video above.
From the fuel pump to the harmonic balancer, every last bit of the engine is torn down this week on The Build. Although only a few components got tweaked in the vehicle’s accident, the American Modern crew, headed by Claims Specialist Rick Drewry, decided to do a full overhaul on the engine while it was out of the vehicle. Not a bad choice when it comes to building up or restoring a classic muscle car.
With everything exposed in the engine block, machine work is an obvious must, as the crew found scoring last time in the cylinder heads and grooves this time on the crank. From here, the engine will move to a machine shop to get prepped and pampered for its future build.
The 1965 Malibu SS has come a long ways since its run-in with a brick wall thanks to the ever-expanding crew of The Build. Be sure to tune in next week as The Build visit’s the machine shop with their vintage Chevy big block.
