2013 Thai-built Colorado Compact Pickups

The Chevrolet Colorado, the lovable compact pickup truck that was marketed by General Motors is making a return next year. Originally run from 2004-2012 to replace the Chevrolet S-10 compact trucks, the Colorado took some hits in safety from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Frontal offset tests for the Colorado were given a “Good” overall score, however the crew cab was rated “Acceptable”. In the side impact test, the Colorado crew cab was rated “Poor” with or without side curtain airbags.

General Motors ceased manufacturing the Colorado for the 2013 model year, putting the compact truck through a redesign. The Thai-built Colorado truck continued to be sold in Asia but there was no 2013 domestic model in the U.S.

The U.S. spec model will now be drastically different from the global Thai-built Colorado. The 2014 U.S.-spec model was confirmed by the LA Autoshow. It is expected to arrive in U.S. showrooms by the end of 2014.

No images were available for the redesigned truck, and there was no further details from the LA Autoshow’s press release. The LA show will hold press previews on November 20 and 21 where more details will be explained.
