Before we go crazy, before we explode,
There’s something bout me, baby, you got to know.
I get off on 57 Chevys!
-Eric Clapton
“I’ve Got a Rock ‘n’ Roll Heart” is a song by Eric Clapton from his album Money and Cigarettes. The single was successful in the US, peaking at 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, yet the song had less success overseas.
In 2010, it was used as part of an advertisement campaign for a Fender edition of the T-Mobile HTC Magic myTouch 3G telephone. Clapton also appeared in the commercial, and resurrected the song for his North American tour with Roger Daltrey. This re-boosted popularity of the song.
In our book, any song that mentions ’57 Chevys is a hit.
We picked the video of this tune that was captured in Toronto in 2010. Our video selection was done on purpose to show how universal the American ’57 Chevy has become in pop icons. When anyone, of any age, thinks about early rock and roll… the first mental picture that pops into mind is a red and white late ’50s Chevy. It just can’t be helped. That’s as Americana as it gets.
Take that Toronto!
