While the frame is one of the most important pieces of a vehicle, so too are the body mounts that secure the vehicle’s body to its frame. Unfortunately, with all the years of wear and tear, and the beat-down of elements that the American Modern Malibu went through prior to its becoming a project car, the vehicle’s body mounts could use some love- especially one. Check out how the crew of The Build repaired their broken body mount in the video above.
Rusted from every direction, the body mount in question was ultimately cut off to release it from the car’s hold when the tear-down process was in full swing. But now the crew must address the underlying problem- a body mount that’s rusted into the floor of the Malibu but that also spins freely, making it no good to hold any portion of the body to the frame.
So to fix this, the crew cut out the old body mount and fabricated a new piece of metal, fit with a washer and nut, to be able to secure the frame and body together properly.
During the process there was cutting, grinding and template-making to do, and the entire crew of The Build stepped in to do their part. In the end, the new piece of metal was welded into place and now sits in wait to accomplish its ultimate duty!
Check back next Monday as we take a look at the crew of The Build tackling the chore of stripping the under body of the Malibu.
