Today, we’re showing you one of those cars that just won’t ever go out of style: a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air station wagon. There’s just something about all that contoured steel, aluminum, and chrome that makes you wish you could go back in time. Hard edges, weight, and aerodynamic performance were hardly the major concerns of the day, and as such these aesthetic decisions led to some of the most fantastic-looking cars of the century.
This one comes to us from the Hemmings Auto Classifieds. For this particular Bel Air, it’s been lucky; lucky that it’s never been modified or left to rot in a barn somewhere. The owner claims it has a rebuilt engine, as well as suspension and PowerGlide transmission.
He has also replaced the original body mounts, window seals, door seals and wiring harnesses. The interior was reworked to resemble the original, with the only modern touches being the tires (radial whitewalls), the alternator, and an alarm system. We don’t think anyone would have too much of a problem with that now, do we?
Interestingly, the car’s owner hails from Staten Island, which was one of the hardest-hit locations last October. As you may recall, this was back when Sandy wreaked a path of destruction up and down the New England coast. It’s a bit curious to ponder where this beautiful car was being kept while the hurricane was raging.
At 111,800 miles and a $36,500 price tag, do you think this car is a fair sell? Let us know in the comments.
