Drag racing has undergone many changes and evolutions since organizations like the NHRA started applying rules to these contests of speed. Yet it is hard to look at these 8,000 horsepower, 4-second monsters, and wonder where we could possibly go next. We’ve just about tapped out the potential of the internal combustion engine.
But what about electric vehicles? While still in their infancy, there is already a small-but-dedicated following to electric vehicles, including some genuine gearheads who want nothing more than to go fast. Ron Adamowicz is just such a gearhead, and he has given his ten-second electric Camaro a new look for the 2013 season.
We haven’t heard much from Ron and his car, the Warp Factor III, since its debut season back in 2011. That’s when Ron ran a 10.08 in the 1/4 mile, which is a respectable time with any drivetrain. Since then him and his team have been hard at work on the electric Camaro, giving it a new, more modern body.
This video is actually from last year, though no times are posted, leaving us wondering if the new body didn’t slow things down. Ron is also currently seeking funding via Kickstarter for an electric racing documentary, though he’s raised little cash thus far. But maybe once people can really see what this electric Camaro can do (and that would require a better camera), the interest and money might come pouring in.
