It can be hard to think outside of the box sometimes. Hot rodders have been swapping engines since before you or I were born, so being creative can be difficult. Sometimes you have an engine though, and no car to put it in. That could be a real problem if you aren’t creative or handy with tools. If you are though, you can come up with some pretty ridiculous contraptions.
Perhaps something like this Polaris ATV from YouTube. At first glance, it just looks like a regular old long-travel ATV, until you notice that engine nestled between the driver’s legs isn’t quite stock. No, it is actually a 454 Chevy Big Block…on an ATV!
For comparison’s sake, a top-of-the-line 2011 Polaris Sportsman XP 850 features a 850 cc twin-cylinder SOHC engine. That engine displaces about 52 cubic inches, compared to the 454 cubic inches displaced by the swapped engine. That is a tremendous difference just in horsepower and torque, but this is no stock 454 engine either.
This ridiculous device has long tube headers, dual Holley carburetors, and a Chevy Turbo 350 transmission feeding into a shaved rear end. Yes, this ATV has had some extensive modifications done to it to squeeze the engine in, and according to the video poster, the driver barely takes it off of idle (we wonder why). Sure, it may not be the most practical type of setup for a 454 engine, but it sure is original, and we wouldn’t mind having one of these in our own garage.
