J.D. Power Names 2010 Camaro As Most Dependable Mid-Size Sporty Car

In spite of being a first year model, the 2010 Camaro has won J.D. Power's award for "Most Dependable Midsize Sporty Car".

What factors do you consider most when buying a new sports car? There’s no doubt that you carefully compare a car’s horsepower and performance stats versus its competitors, and you probably take a good bit of time pondering the styling characteristics that appeal to you the most. But honestly, what good are horsepower and looks if a car doesn’t have the long-term reliability to go along with them?

As it turns out, owners of 5th Gen Camaros really do get it all – the power, the styling and the dependability. J.D. Power and Associates recently awarded the Camaro as the “Most Dependable Midsize Sporty Car” among all its 2010 model year peers. During their study, J.D. Power tracked the problems experienced by the owners of these now three year old cars, and recorded how many issues were reported per 100 cars on the road.

Love it or hate it - the 5th Gen Camaro has done more than any other vehicle in recent history to improve The General's reputation.

Perhaps the most interesting thing to consider here is that the Camaro won in spite of being a brand new model for 2010. On J.D. Power’s website, David Sargent, V.P. of Global Automotive says, “There is a perception that all-new models, or models that undergo a major redesign, are more problematic than carryover models. Data from the 2013 VDS suggests that this is not the case. The rapid improvement in fundamental vehicle dependability each year is more than offsetting any initial glitches that all-new or redesigned models may have.”

If you think about it, dependability is probably the single biggest factor in brand loyalty. Considering that four out of every 10 buyers of a new Camaro traded in a non-General Motors vehicle on their new 5th Gen, it’s clear that the Camaro has played a huge part in developing a whole new customer base for General Motors that will last long into the future.
