When it comes to extreme sports athletes push their bodies to the edge. When it comes to the sport of rock bouncing, both bodies and machines are pushed to the very limit in attempts to conquer the elements. If you follow along with rock bouncing at all, you have most likely at least heard of “MadRam11” and his infamous YouTube channel that showcases tons of southern rock bouncing action. When it comes to his personal buggy, owner of MadRam11 Productions, Cole Shirley, chooses to go with LS power.

The build is surprisingly quite simple, at least when it comes to the engine. Powering the buggy starts off with a 6.0L LQ4 block. The iron block is an excellent choice given the amount of beating it will have to take from propelling a steel cage up gigantic rocks at high RPM all day. On top of the block sit some LS1 heads along with an LS1 intake. Perhaps the most extensive modification to the engine is a baffled oil pan that keeps the oil pressure up when on a steep incline. It all fits nicely in place underneath the protective cage.

Watching the video would lead one to assume that with the beating this buggy endures, it’s getting torn down for maintenance and repair all the time. However, that is not the case whatsoever. According to Cole, up until the LS1 heads were put in place, the old setup hadn’t come apart for over 4 years. Some cars don’t even last that long. Whoever said American engines aren’t reliable might want to think again!
