The fifth-gen Camaro has become the anti-hero of the current modern breed of musclecars. Constantly ridiculed by skeptics, Ford fans, and even F-body owners, the current Camaro still stands its ground as GM’s sole offering in the pony car market.

We dig the blacked-out/carbon fiber touches of the engine.

The ultra high-performance ZL1 solidifies that, by out-classing it’s direct competitor, the Shelby GT500, around the road course at every circuit – despite the Ford’s additional 82 HP and 200 pound weight advantage compared to the Camaro. Evolution and advanced engineering are the key at General Motors these days.

The ZL1 you’re looking at on this page was tipped off to us by no other than Randy Chovanetz of 510 Race Engineering. It was built for a customer of theirs who goes by the name of Shane, and the 510 boys worked their magic on Shane’s ride that took the “underdog ZL1” to 11.

Leaving the LSA bottom-end completely stock, 510 installed their trademark Stage III 800 HP performance package. This entails swapping out the factory heads for a pair of Stage III castings, porting the supercharger snout and throttle body, installing a custom grind camshaft, and upgrading the valvetrain with new springs and titanium retainers.

A set of American Racing headers, dual in-tank fuel pumps, 80-lb. injectors, a smaller supercharger pulley for increased boost pressure, a Roto-Fab cold-air intake, and a ported 90 MM GM throttle body helps increase the already potent LSA’s power.

Top it all off with a Innovators West balancer and a dual pass intercooler and reservoir, and you have yourself one hot ticket. Chovanetz says that this particular car, equipped with the A6 gearbox and OEM torque converter, put down a total of 701 HP and 689 pound-feet of torque to the rear tires.

This 510 performance package comes with a 1-year/10,000-mile warranty, and that’s something you really can’t throw any stones at!
