The Chevy Camaro has long been (incorrectly) regarded as a car that was only good going fast in a straight line. However, the latest generation of Camaros has been slowly changing that perception, both here in the Camaro’s home country and across the pond in Europe. More and more Camaros are being tapped to perform in some of Europe’s most prestigious road racing series.

Touring Car Times reports that Solaris Motorsport is replacing their aging Chevy Lumina touring car with a new Chevy Camaro SS in Europe’s Superstar Series. Those Eurotrash Camaro-bashers better watch their backs.

The Superstar Series is a touring car series based on production vehicles, and the Camaro will have its work cut out when it comes to the competition. Among the other approved vehicles is the new BMW M3, the Cadillac C63 AMG, and the Jaguar XFR among others. The Camaro will also be joined by other American rides, including the Cadillac CTS-V and Chrysler 300C SRT8.

The Solaris Team is expected to field another Chevy Lumina as well, as driver Francesco Sini still managed to secure his first victory behind the wheel of a Lumina race car. The Lumina is nothing like the Lumina we once knew here in the states though, as it is based on the Holden Commodore performance sedan, which shares a similar architecture with the Chevy Camaro as well. Will these American/Aussie creations be able to take down Europe’s elite? That’s certainly the plan.
