Recently, we learned from the induction of Bloomington Gold’s Great Hall Honorees that it’s the people who make motoring into a cultural phenomenon. For veteran Taylor Morris, however, the will to make a dream into reality has been the meat of a year long web campaign that so far has brought it to the attention of many that nearly anything is possible when there’s enough drive to back it up.
Now age 23, Iowa local Taylor Morris enlisted in the Navy in 2007 as an explosive ordinance disposal technician. While on patrol in Afghanistan last May, Morris stepped on a homemade bomb that would end up claiming both of his legs above the knees, along with his left arm and right hand.
Since that time, Taylor and girlfriend Danielle Kelly have kept an ongoing blog covering the journeys and triumphs of Taylor’s recovery, and last year Taylor enjoyed a bit of online fame after a group of friends shared his and Danielle’s remarkable story.
That same group of friends have presented us this year with a fantastic testament to Morris’ skills and abilities, and they’ve shown us just why he won’t be stepping down anytime soon.
The story behind our featured video of a snow drift session with Taylor and friends is that it was actually made with drifting icon Ken Block in mind. Here, the clip starts with Morris jokingly calling Block’s drifting skills “weak,” but Morris is actually a fan of Block’s and by making his video viral hopes to actually drive with Block as his co-pilot.
It’s taken great perseverance for Taylor to get where he is today, but with his “driving arm” in tow he is more than unstoppable. The faces of automotive have made this hobby one of our nation’s best, but with his insatiable desire to drift against all odds, Taylor Morris has set a bar that probably few of us will be able to beat anytime soon!
