While we’re all fans of American muscle cars in general, we still have to give a shoutout to other cars of the era that had significant cultural impacts. Any list of important cars from the 1960s absolutely must include the Volkswagen Beetle. Not because it was fast, fun, or some kind of technological marvel. Rather, it is the sheer versatility and creativity of the Beetle, and Beetle owners that has given this car a place into the automotive pantheon.

The VW Beetle was especially popular as a platform for kit cars, with do-it-yourselfers coming up with all sorts of kits that transformed the humble Beetle into everything from dune buggies to drag cars. Alas, this Camaro kit car didn’t use a Beetle as its platform, but the lesser-known Volkswagen Type 3…and it did nothing to improve the look of this “shorty” Camaro.

Bangshift came across this weird and wacky ride for sale on Samba.com, where the owner is asking $700 for this…thing. According to the seller, this kit was made by the Kar Mfg. company in Monson, Massachusetts, and very few were made. The ride is obviously in rough shape, and we’re not sure you’d be able to source the parts to restore one even if you wanted to.

What’s more, this ride barely resembles a Camaro in any way, save for the long hood, round lights, and squashed-looking grille. Why anyone would want to undertake such a project, when Camaro owners were practically giving away their cars during the 1970s, is an absolute mystery to us.

To each their own, right? At least no real Camaros were harmed in the making of this kit crap… car.
