A few years ago, the collector car market went absolutely nuts for old race cars. It didn’t matter what shape they were in; there were cars that wound up starting bidding wars that pushed the price well beyond reasonable. These days the prices have come down to Earth quite a bit, though there is still money to be spent if you absolutely, positively have to have a legendary race car in your collection.

Up on eBay is a very unique, and very expensive 1968 Camaro Z/28. It belonged to racing legend Dave Strickler, and with some help from Grumpy Jenkins, Strickler dominated the 1968 Super Stock Series, going on to win the drag racing championship. Ya, you know you want this car.

Back in the day, this Grumpy Jenkins-tuned Camaro Z/28 was the fastest car on the Super Stock dragstrip. Granted, the performance may not seem all that inspiring today, running an average of 11.70 at around 116 mph. But back in the day, that was more than fast enough to completely dominate the rest of the Super Stock competition.

After its successful 1968 season, this Camaro was sold, and thought lost to history. The car traded hands a few times before being found (with help from Dave Strickler’s son) and restored to its former glory using some hard-to-find NOS parts. Today, this meticulously-restored Camaro is one of the best-documented old racers in the world, which explains its sky-high price.

You’ll have to shell out $459,000 to add this Camaro to your collection…but if you’re going to have a famous race car, shouldn’t it be a Camaro Z/28?
