Car thieves are among the lowest forms of life on the planet. Unfortunately, the market for stolen cars is ever increasing, especially those high-priced classics that are almost impossible to track down and recover. Rare are the stories of stolen classics being recovered, and usually it is through blind luck or a over-scrutinizing buyer.
KBOI2 reports that an Idaho man was recently arrested, and one of two stolen Camaros recovered, after a would-be buyer tipped off police after more than a few alarm bells were raised…mostly over the low, low price.
Usually most people wouldn’t think to look a gift horse in the mouth, but the unnamed collector thought the price for a 1967 Camaro RS was too low to be legit. With an asking price of just $27,500, which is about half the value of a real RS, the would-be buyer did some more digging and found photos of the car online, discovering that it had been stolen some time last month.
The Camaro was one of two stolen from David King, an Idaho native. Police arrested Anthony Bauer, who had worked on both Camaros about five years ago, in connection with the theft. Bauer was also allegedly driving a stolen pickup and hauling a stolen travel trailer. King is still missing another of his Camaros, a yellow one with black stripes estimated to be worth about $45,000.
At least this story has a half-happy ending, though if that yellow Camaro was already sold, tracking it down might be almost impossible.
