Drag racing is not for the faint of heart and noted Pro Street racer Chris Rini knows that all too well. Back in 2011, we talked to Rini and found out that his career was on the up-slope with many aspirations for future competition, including chasing down an illusive 5-second pass in his ATI-equipped Camaro. While Rini and his team faced troubles all season long, he finally broke into the 5s at the 2011 National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) Finals at Indy. Rini’s ‘69 Pro Mod Camaro was built by Jerry Bickel Race Cars and features a Cynergy Composites body. The car is powered by a Charlie Buck 825ci. engine strapped to an ATI Superglide 4 transmission with an ATI Outlaw Converter.

This setup proved to be the winning combination at the NMCA Finals at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 9, 2011. After qualifying with a 6.03 pass, Rini lined up as the second-place qualifier and threw down an amazing 5.988-second quarter mile run at 236.4mph.

Rini was the first competitor to break into the 5s in any NMCA class. His 5.988-second run makes Rini’s Bickel Camaro the fastest nitrous True Automatic in history.
