We no longer live in an age where horsepower ratings in the thousands are unheard of. With technology constantly expanding and more and more enthusiasts reaching for extreme horsepower ratings, these four-digit power numbers once only dreamed about are not only possible, but pulled off more often than ever.
That doesn’t mean that these incredible power ratings don’t impress us every time we see them, however. Case in point, the power of the engine in the YouTube video above. Frankly, if the few extremely potent engines we’ve shown you have made you numb to horsepower numbers reaching over 2,000 from an Aussie-built engine, you should be searching elsewhere for thrills.
The 540ci Chevy big-block was built by Aaron Hambridge of Advanced Performance Machining in Sydney, Australia. Obviously, the engine looks mean but nothing could have prepared us for just how potent it really is.
Strapped to an engine dynamometer at Noonan Race Engineering in Brisbane, Australia, the engine thunders to life. With Dave Harvey at the controls, the Chevy big-block proves to push out a mighty 2,505.3hp and 1,570.3 pounds of twist. Yes, you read that correctly- 2,505hp and almost 1,600 ft-lb. and it all stayed together to live for another day. If that doesn’t blow your socks off, we don’t know what will.
We aren’t sure what the future plans for the engine are but we’re hoping that the Advanced Performance Machining crew puts this beast of a blown engine in something cool like an old-school Chevy muscle car. Can anyone blame us for wanting to see how a classic Chevy with this engine in it would stack up to Al Jimenez’s 1,800+hp Camaro or Jake Edwards’ 1,585rwhp Holden Torana? We didn’t think so!
