We know. Please, anything but another first-generation Camaro in Pro Modified.
Sure, the ’67-69 Camaro is perhaps even more played out now than the ’63 Split Window ‘Vettes were in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, but the fact of the matter is that body manufacturers have gone to great lengths to make these bodies aero-slick, and at more than 200 MPH, aerodynamics are your friends. Plus, they look great, even if there’s a million of them.
The beautiful piece that you see before you belongs to east coast-based Pro Modified racers Tommy and Roger Franklin and was built by Garret Livingston and crew at Garret Race Cars in Marble Hill, Mo. The finishing touches were recently placed on this work of art that features some of the latest tricks and lightweight components, including an ultra light Harry Glass body and a host of titanium components throughout. Stuffed between the framerails is an 864-inch, nitrous-huffing monster built by Eagle Racing Engines and transferred through a Bruno automatic transmission and Neal Chance converter setup.
Franklin is expected to campaign the new Camaro at a number of east coast Pro Modified events and selected ADRL races in the tough Pro Nitrous division.
Back in 2008 during the ADRL 1-800-G0-GUARD U.S. Drags at the Maryland International Raceway, Franklin rode out a wild, barrel-rolling excursion in a then-brand new Garret-built 1968 Camaro, virtually destroying the pristine new machine.
